At midnight on July 3, a large fireworks display over Chiniak Bay marks the beginning of Independence Day celebrations. Island communities celebrate with parades and special observance. In Kodiak the Multi-cultural Committee holds a parade in celebration of the community's diverse mix of races and cultures.
August 7-9: Pilgrimage to St. Herman's Monks Lagoon
Celebrating, on these dates in 1970, the canonization of Father Herman by the Orthodox Church in America. There is an annual pilgrimage to his home site on Spruce Island.
August 12-14: Kodiak Kid's Pink Salmon Jamboree
Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center.
September: Silver Salmon Derby

September 2-4: Kodiak State Fair and Rodeo
